Moving house is stressful enough without having to worry about the implications it may have on your broadband package.

First and foremost you must contact your internet service provider and give them as much detail about the move as possible, including the date, new postcode, house number and any other information that will facilitate the moving of the broadband.

But the fact of the matter is that taking your broadband with you is not a straightforward process and there are a number of things you must bear in mind when doing so.

Normally you have two choices – stick with the broadband package you have until the contract finishes or pay a fee to bring the relationship to an end early.

If cost is the overriding factor then you are probably better sticking with the same broadband service provider you are currently with, provided they are able to supply your connection in the area you are moving to.

This is one of many things to consider, as you will be left with no choice but to find another provider if they do not offer services in your new location.

You must also bear in mind several other points, including whether you are actually happy with how things have gone with them so far.

If you are less than satisfied with the services you receive then you may wish to start exploring other options before you move.

You should transfer your existing broadband to your new home only if you are happy with it, they offer a connection in your new area and you are reluctant to pay the cancellation fee for ending the contract.
